MCP45HVx1 Digital Potentiometers

The MCP45HVx1 family of devices from Microchip are Digital Potentiometers with an SPI Interface and on board Volatile Memory. The device family has dual power rails, one analogue one digital. The Analogue power rail can handle up to +36 V and can be implemented as a dual rail (±18 V) relative to the digital logic ground.

The MCP45HVx1 has a Write Latch (WLAT) function that inhibits the volatile wiper register from being updated (latched) with received data until the WLAT pin is low. This allows the specification of a condition where the volatile wiper register is updated (such as zero crossing).

Features

High-Voltage Analogue Support: +36 V terminal voltage range (DGND = V-), ±18 V terminal voltage range (DGND = V- +18 V)
Wide Operating Voltage: Analogue 10 V to 36 V, Digital 2.7 V to 5.5 V or 1.8 V to 5.5 V (DGND ≤ V- +0.9 V)
Single Resistor Network
Resistor Network Resolution: 7-bit: 127 resistors (128 Taps) or 8-bit: 255 resistors (256 Taps) – model dependant
High Terminal/Wiper Current (IW) Support: 25 mA for 5 kΩ, 12.5 mA for 10 kΩ and 6.5 mA for 50 kΩ and 100 kΩ
Zero-Scale to Full-Scale Wiper Operation
Low Wiper Resistance: 75 Ω (typical)
Low Temperature Coefficient: Absolute (Rheostat) 50 ppm, Ratiometric (Potentiometer) 15 ppm (typical)
SPI Serial Interface
Resistor Network Terminal Disconnect via Shutdown pin (SHDN) or Terminal Control (TCON) register
Write Latch (WLAT) Pin to Control Update of Volatile Wiper Register (such as Zero Crossing)
Power-on Reset/Brown-out Reset for Digital and Analogue Supply
Serial Interface Inactive Current (3 μA Typical)
500 kHz Typical Bandwidth (-3 dB) Operation (5.0 kΩ Device)
