It is widely accepted that extension leads, like portable appliances, should be tested regularly to ensure electrical safety. The LT1000, when used in conjunction with a portable appliance tester (PAT) - excepting the PAT 500H greatly simplifies these tests, enabling extension leads to be quickly and safely tested.
When plugged into an extension lead that is in turn plugged into a PAT or PAC 500, the unit provides the earth return for the earth bond test, and will indicate that the lead is wired correctly whilst an operation test is carried out.
